Statscan: Montrealer’s have the slowest commute by car

If you’ve ever driven in Montreal you know the traffic can be horrendous and a recent survey by Statistic Canada proves it. According to survey results released yesterday residents of the Greater Montreal Area spend an average of 31 minutes commuting to work by car.

Residents of the Greater Toronto Area spend 29 minutes commuting to work by car while folks in Vancouver spend just 25 minutes behind the wheel on their way to work. The Canadian average is 26 minutes.

But don’t feel too badly for our friends in Montreal because when it comes to time spent commuting via public transportation they have it good. Very good.

RIM showcases Charger police car equipped with BlackBerry PlayBook

This week a Dodge Charger police car with a Blackberry Playbook installed as the in-car computer is being showcased at the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) conference in Windsor, Ontario.

RIM says the PlayBook is ideal because it frees up space in the front console of police vehicles and it’s portable. The on-board system also has the ability to connect to a mobile scanner and printer, which could assist with issuing tickets (oh joy!).

Nissan Canada announces dealership network for Nissan LEAF

Right now in Canada only 27 dealerships have passed Nissan Canada’s rigorous certification process. Retailers must have modified sales and service departments with staff going through specialized training.

Stop/start system making its way into many Volvo models

Beginning in September 2011, a six-speed automatic transmission with stop/start technology will be available in four European Volvo vehicles, including the S60, V60, V70 and S80 powered by the 2.0-litre D3 turbodiesel engine, in order to help reduce their fuel consumption by 0.4 litre per 100 kilometres.
